Our protocol for Covid-19

Student Protocol

Dear student,

You have chosen to live with a host family to experience an immersion stay. In this particular time of pandemic, we believe it is important to put in place appropriate measures for all members of the household to ensure the safety of everyone. This implies the respect of a few rules to apply. It is the student's responsibility to follow the health guidelines recommended by the French government.

BEFORE ARRIVAL

The way of hosting is now different and host families expect students to be extremely respectful of hygiene measures and health instructions during the COVID-19 crisis.

TEST COVID-19

Get tested less than 72 hours before arrival in the family.

If you test positive, are recently exposed to COVID-19, or have any symptoms, notify Host Families in Paris immediately for further action.

It is the responsibility of each student to stay informed of the French government's recommendations.
We encourage the student and the host family to discuss and stay informed of any changes in regulations regarding COVID-19.

We recommend that people who are not vaccinated get regular self-tests. For more information, visit the Ministry of Health website.

THE ARRIVAL

Respect the recommended barrier gestures. Wear a mask, greet your host verbally, maintain a minimum distance of two meters and avoid physical contact.

7-day self-isolation period

As of January 18, 2021, there is a mandatory 7-day self-isolation period when entering France from outside the Schengen area. The public health insurance website, Ameli.fr, provides detailed advice on limiting contact with others and maintaining clean living conditions during the self-isolation period. Campus France describes the conditions of the 7-day quarantine.

  • Stay home as much as possible.
  • Limit your time outside to the essentials.
  • Avoid contact and always wear a mask when in the presence of another person.
  • Inform your school that you are under quarantine.
  • Avoid contact with others in your home.
  • If symptoms occur, contact a physician immediately.
In the event of a student's infection, his/her room will be used for isolation and recovery. If local regulations permit, a student who insists on leaving the host family to isolate him/herself in another location will be allowed to do so at his/her expense. Depending on the circumstances of the student's alternative housing, the student may not be able to return to the host family until they have completed a 7-day quarantine or have tested negative for up to 72 hours.

CLEANING

It's important to maintain a higher level of cleanliness in your room than ever before. Refer to the Enhanced Cleaning Protocol in the appendix to help you clean your room to reduce the risk of spreading the virus during the COVID-19 crisis.
  • Air your room for at least 20 minutes every day.
  • Clean and sanitize your room as often as necessary with the cleaning products provided by the host.
  • It is recommended to empty and take out your garbage bag every day.

GATHERINGS

Follow the government's recommendations regarding gatherings (as of 10/14/20 no more than 6 people). This ban also applies to your home and remains in effect until further notice.

Covid circuit diagrams

In the event of a positive test and quarantine of the student and/or a family member, the recommendations of the Assurance Maladie must be respected.

Host Families in Paris must be notified if a student fails to comply with these guidelines and reserves the right to take appropriate action.

In the event that a family member or student contracts COVID-19, Host Families in Paris will maintain privacy and confidentiality whenever possible and in accordance with the law. However, some information may be used for contact tracing if necessary and to inform the student's emergency contacts if necessary.

These few rules are thought of as necessary and minimal measures that we recommend you put in place and are in addition to the measures recommended by the government.

We emphasize your assumption of responsibility in setting up the host family's daily routine in an outbreak situation. Thus, the host family is free to set up rules in addition to those listed here and expect you to follow them.

We remain at your disposal if you have any reservations, questions or for any other information.

Kind regards,

The Host Families in Paris team

Our protocols in place against covid 19

Host Family Protocol

Dear host family,

You know that our students want more than anything to experience an immersion experience, especially during this particular pandemic period. Since the students you are hosting are considered members of the family during their stay, we feel it is important to put in place appropriate measures for all members of your household to ensure the safety of everyone. This means that there are a few rules that you will want to follow and enforce.

People at risk

During this unprecedented period, if you are among those at risk (people over 65 years old, people with pre-existing medical conditions such as diabetes, heart disease...), we recommend that you seek the advice of a health professional and take extra precautions if you decide to host a student.

BEFORE ARRIVAL

The way of hosting is now different and students expect hosts to be extremely respectful of hygiene and sanitary measures during the COVID-19 crisis.

Before cleaning, air each room for at least 20 minutes by opening the windows wide. Disinfect your entire home using products with a minimum of 70% alcohol and wearing gloves.

Remember to put special emphasis on carpets, sofas and porous surfaces.
We recommend that the student's room be equipped with a garbage can with a lid and that suitable bags be provided.

TEST COVID-19

Get tested less than 72 hours before the student arrives.

If you test positive, have recent exposure to COVID-19, or have any symptoms, notify HFP immediately as you will not be able to accommodate students.

THE ARRIVAL

Respect the recommended barrier gestures. Wear a mask, greet your student verbally, keep a minimum distance of two meters and avoid physical contact.

WASHINGTON

Wash the student's clothes separately from your own. Use gloves to handle their clothes when doing laundry. If possible, have the student do their own laundry.

CLEANING

See the Enhanced Cleaning Protocol in the appendix.
  • Prepare by gathering the necessary products.
  • Clean dirt and dust.
  • Sanitize with a disinfectant.
  • Finalize the cleaning.

The bathrooms, toilets and kitchen should be disinfected weekly. Everyone should make sure to lower the toilet flap before flushing to avoid micro-droplets.

DAILY LIFE

These measures are valid for family members, the student and any visitor.
  • Take off your shoes when you get home. If possible, change your clothes to indoor clothing.
  • Meals are taken together in a room where physical distance can be well respected.
  • The student must wear a mask if necessary to be in the common areas of the host family.
  • Wash the dishes with very hot water or in the dishwasher at 60°C.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly on a regular basis with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or by using a disinfectant* containing at least 70% alcohol.
  • Wash your hands before and during food preparation, serve meals with serving utensils and do not share food or drinks.
  • Follow physical distancing and barrier gestures by coughing into your elbow, using single-use tissues and avoiding touching your face.
  • It is forbidden for the student to invite anyone, under any circumstances, to the family's home.
  • Remember to take your temperature daily. You should have your own thermometer.
  • Ventilate common areas to ensure better air circulation, clean and sanitize common areas as often as necessary.
  • Follow the government's recommendations regarding gatherings (as of 10/14/20 no more than 6 people). This ban also applies to your home and remains in effect until further notice.
  • Family members will only enter the student's room in case of emergency or absolute necessity (e.g. repairs).
  • It is therefore the student's responsibility to clean his/her room weekly with the products provided by the host.
  • It is not advisable to share any personal items, even between accepted members of the family unit. Keep the sharing of items (books, journals, pens, etc.) to a minimum.
  • Each person is responsible for his or her own supply of masks (to be changed every 4 hours) and hydro-alcoholic gel for use outside the home.
  • We encourage the student and host family to discuss and stay informed of any changes in regulations regarding COVID-19 on an ongoing basis.
*A hydro-alcoholic gel dispenser will be installed by the host at the entrance of the home for daily use in the home.
